Player Evaluation Day - Saturday, January 10th

Player Evaluation Day - What to Expect

What is Player Evaluation Day?
The purpose of Player Evaluation Day is to allow coaches and league commissioners an opportunity to assess each child's current abilities so we can better ensure competitively-balanced teams throughout each division.  Everyone makes it on a team, as these are not tryouts!

Do we need to attend Player Evaluation Day?
Yes, player evaluations are required for all players participating in our Shetland, Pinto, Mustang and Bronco divisions.  There are no evaluations for players in the Foal division.

When will my child's division be evaluated?
Player Evaluation Day will take place at the St. Hedwig baseball fields on Saturday, January 10th.  Kids need to arrive at their designated check-in time listed below.  Each child will need to check in at the table next to the Snack Shack, and will be given a name tag with a reference number.

If you are unable to attend Player Evaluation Day, please send an email to [email protected] in advance letting us know that your child is unable to attend.

  • Shetland Division: Check-in at 12:00pm. The Shetland clinic will run from 12:30pm to 2:30pm
  • Pinto Division: Pinto will be split into two groups based on the player's last name.
    • For players with a last name starting with A-L, Check-in at 8:00am. The evaluations will run from 8:30am to 10:30am.
    • For players with a last name starting with M-Z, Check-in at 10:00am. The evaluations will run from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
  • Mustang Division: Mustang will be split into two groups based on the player's last name.
    • For players with a last name starting with A-L, Check-in at 10:00am. The evaluations will run from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
    • For players with a last name starting with M-Z, Check-in at 12:00pm. The evaluations will run from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
  • Bronco Division: Check-in at 8:00am. The evaluations will run from 8:30am to 10:30am.

What will my child do during Player Evaluations?
Players in the Pinto, Mustang & Bronco divisions will be evaluated based on fundamentals including batting, throwing, fielding, base running, and pitching.  Typically, kids will be asked to bat once or twice with 4-5 pitches from a coach, field ground balls at Shortstop and make the throw to first, run to 1st base after an at-bat, and throw 4-5 pitches from the mound.

For players in the Shetland division, coaches and commissioners will work with the kids in more of a hands-on, clinic-style approach.  As most of the kids in this division are new to baseball, coaches will help the kids through some basic drills that allow kids the opportunity to work on batting, running, fielding and throwing.

What should my child wear & bring to Evaluation Day?
Players should be dressed to perform and should bring a bat, helmet and glove!  We recommend kids wear baseball pants, cleats (no metal cleats), and a protective cup.  For the Shetland division, if your child does not yet have these items, athletic pants and sneakers are allowed.
