Age Chart Change
PONY National is changing their birthday cut-off from April 30th to August 31st effective January 1, 2018.
What does this mean? All players born in the months of May, June, July, and August will skip a "baseball year" next season. As an example, a player born in June 2011 was considered a 5-year old player this season (because he/she would have been five years old as of April 30, 2017). With the new age cutoff, the same player will now be considered a 7-year old (because he/she would be seven years old as of August 31, 2018). For players born in months outside May-August, there will be no change in age calculations.
St. Hedwig Pony will use Fall Ball this year to help bridge the gap for all players, but particularly for those jumping ahead a season. We also are looking at having additional camps and clinics prior to next season to minimize the adjustment period. Moreover, the Board will discuss some rule options, which may ease the transition without compromising our product.
Baseball Bat Rule
St. Hedwig Pony wants to bring to your attention that USA Baseball, which includes Pony (and all other youth leagues), has changed the standards for youth baseball bats effective January 2018.
This change means that all bats currently approved for Pony baseball will be considered illegal and not be allowed in 2018.
This only pertains to bats for 2018 and DOES NOT affect current bat eligibility for the upcoming Spring 2017 season. It is expected that the new approved bats won't be available until Fall 2017.
